*Lost a key on a Forest walk, locked out in a village car park, or a Land Rover that won't recognise its fob? SmartTech Auto Locksmiths works across the whole New Forest and comes out to the car with everything needed to cut and code a key on the spot.*
Our auto locksmith services in the New Forest cover lost keys, lockouts, ignitions, spares and programming, all at the vehicle, whether that's a driveway or a gravel car park miles from anywhere.
With no key left, we decode the lock, shape a new blade and program a matching chip, cancelling the missing key where the car's system permits: car key replacement. For locked keys in car in the New Forest, entry starts from £95 and leaves no trace: keys locked in car.
A key that sticks or won't turn is usually a worn ignition barrel, rebuilt or swapped there and then: ignition repair. A key the car has forgotten needs car key programming, and a spare copied while one key still works is the cheapest insurance there is: spare car keys.

At your vehicle
Yes. As a car locksmith in the New Forest, we cover it end to end, from Totton and the Waterside in the east to Ringwood and Fordingbridge in the west, and from Cadnam down to Lymington and New Milton on the coast.
Distances out here are real, so we're straight with you: this is booked-in work, not an instant callout, and you'll get a genuine time when you ring. Most jobs are still done the same day. That's the whole case for a mobile auto locksmith in the New Forest: the nearest dealer can mean a long drive, and a car that won't start needs a recovery truck to get there. We come to the car. We take calls from 8 in the morning until 10 at night in the week, and from 10 until 6 at weekends.

At your vehicle
From £95 for a lockout. Anything else is priced on the phone once we have your reg, and you pay when the job's done, not before.
Three things move the price: the style of key, how the immobiliser learns a new one, and whether you've a surviving key we can copy. Where one symptom could have several causes, we explain the possible prices on the phone and assess the vehicle before confirming the work. Prices are agreed before anything is taken apart. Major faults are diagnosed on site, and there's a call-out charge for working out exactly what's behind them. A year's guarantee covers every key. Before you book any locksmith, find out who's actually driving out, whether their key really runs the engine, and whether the quote is the final word. We'll want photo ID and the logbook before cutting.

Your questions
Yes. Gravel car parks, lay-bys and village greens are all fine, because the cutting and coding kit comes with us. Give us the car park name or the nearest road, or drop a pin on your phone's map, and we'll find you. There's no need to move the car or arrange recovery.
Yes. The Forest is full of them, and they span quite a range. Keyless Land Rovers from around 2009 are usually straightforward. Models from about 2016 take more work, and those from 2019 on are more involved again. The very newest are checked against the registration before we commit. Give us the reg and we'll explain what's involved.
No. Car door unlocking in the New Forest uses tools designed for each lock type, so there's no levering and the paint, glass and seals come through intact. Prices start at £95; we book it in among other jobs, normally the same day, and the locks and alarm carry on working afterwards.
We don't run a 24-hour or drop-everything service. Lockouts are booked in and fitted between other jobs, and the majority of lockouts are sorted that same day. In the Forest, where drives are longer, we'd rather give you a time we'll actually hit. If a child or animal is trapped inside on a warm day, dial 999.
From the van
August 2025Hatchback
Ignition barrel replaced on a Hatchback for a customer in New Forest, done on site from the SmartTech mobile workshop. The faulty ignition was repaired on the driveway with no recovery truck needed, and the key was matched to the new lock.

January 2026Volkswagen Polo
Flip key coded on a Volkswagen Polo for a customer in New Forest, done on site from the SmartTech mobile workshop. Programming was carried out at the vehicle, then every function was tested so the key worked exactly like the original.

September 2026Volkswagen Crafter
Van key cut and programmed on a Volkswagen Crafter for a customer in Southampton, done on site from the SmartTech mobile workshop. We matched the key to the registration, cut the blade and coded the transponder so the car started first time. Keeping a work van off the road costs money, so the job was booked in around the customer's day.

At your vehicle
Most Forest key problems happen away from home, which is exactly when a mobile auto locksmith in the New Forest is worth having.
Keys dropped on open heath or in woodland are rarely seen again, and the car is often left in a Forest car park miles from anywhere. Holiday lets, campsites and pub car parks bring the lockouts. Wherever the car is, we come to it, and locked keys in car jobs in the New Forest are handled the same way, at the vehicle.

At your vehicle
Two tasks make a key, both done at the car: shaping a blade for the locks, and coding a chip the immobiliser will trust.
Where there's no original, we work the cuts out from the lock and cut the blade in the van, ready to code. Car key cutting in the New Forest covers laser profiles and the slim emergency blades inside smart fobs. Coding follows: the immobiliser learns the chip, and the remote and any keyless function are set up.
Volvos are common round here, and on nearly all of them the car's security module has to be removed and read before a key can be programmed. That takes longer than a car you can code through the diagnostic port, but it's still done at the vehicle, not in a dealer's workshop. As auto locksmiths in the New Forest, we see plenty of them.
What customers say
"I cannot recommend Alec enough. My transit custom lock was not turning. I did not know Alec at this point and called another locksmith. To cut a long story short the other locksmith attempted a repair and then gave up, leaving me with a van I could no longer use. I called Alec who came out next day; he repaired the damage done by the other locksmith and custom made a replacement ignition barrel so one key still does the doors and the new ignition. I couldn't be more pleased. Price was very fair too!"
"Did the work at a 3rd of the price of the dealership and I'm sure to a higher quality, the work was quick and professional. Could not recommend more!"
"Absolutely spot on! After ringing about 15 different companies who said they couldn't help and one company even saying the series of my car doesn't exist I found smarttech who I contacted who could finally help! The next day he came out and I now have access and a new key to my car! Fast and efficient polite service! Highly recommend!!"
