Most cars from 1998 onwards get their new key at the car, and if yours is one of the few we can't do, we'll say so on the phone before anyone travels.
Newer Cars
Newer cars are covered too, apart from Mercedes-Benz. If a working key still exists, a new key can be made for almost anything. Every key lost is where the limits sit: Volkswagen and Audi from about 2018, and newer Mercedes, go to the dealer once there's no key left.
Vauxhall, Peugeot And Citroën
For 2019-on Vauxhall, Peugeot and Citroën, the manufacturer sells a security PIN against your ownership details, so have the V5C to hand. Earlier models need no PIN.

Can You Get A New Key Today In The New Forest?

A postcode, the nearest road name or a pin dropped on your phone's map gets us there without a detour. Have photo ID and proof of ownership ready too, as both are checked before any key is cut.
At a campsite, give the site name, pitch and gate arrangements; at a Forest car park, identify its entrance and the parked vehicle, not just the walking route. A Working Key Changes The Options
Say whether a remaining key actually starts the engine. A remote that unlocks the doors but cannot start the car is not a reliable spare. Do I need the original key?
No. The blade is cut from the lock and the chip is programmed to the car, so a lost key isn't needed.
Can you come to a car park or campsite?
Yes. As long as we can reach the car, the whole job is done where it's parked. If a site office controls the gate, let them know we're coming.
Is it the key or the ignition?
Try the spare first. If it starts the car, the original key is the problem. If neither works, or the key won't turn, the ignition may be at fault. See ignition repair in the New Forest.
What paperwork do I need at a Forest campsite or holiday address?
Photo ID and the V5C or finance paperwork are required before key work, even away from home. A company or leased car also needs written owner or business authority. Mention the situation when booking so the documents and any site permission are ready for the visit.
Will a lost key still open or start my car?
On supported cars the missing key can be removed from the immobiliser's accepted list during programming, preventing engine starting. The mechanical door lock is unchanged, so the blade may still open it. Tell us if the key was stolen or lost with your address so we can discuss that separate concern.
