Fords to 2023 • 5 stars on Google • Checkatrade 10/10 • Common barrels carried in the van
More Ford ignitions pass through our hands than any other make's, and two models dominate.
Inside a Ford Fiesta ignition barrel, the wafers bind and gradually grind the key away, until a brand-new spare won't turn either. The good news: the barrel usually comes out without being drilled, and we rebuild or renew it on the spot. The Fiesta's ignition switch is another weak point, giving a key that rotates but starts nothing. More on our Ford Fiesta page.
Transit ignitions fail often, and Ford Transit ignition barrel replacement is a regular van job for us, done at the kerb so the van's back at work the same day. See ignition repair.
Coverage
We cover Hampshire, East Dorset and South Wiltshire, and stop there.
Southampton, Eastleigh, Fareham and Portsmouth, the Forest, Ringwood, Christchurch and Salisbury all fall inside. Beyond that, a Ford locksmith near me search in your own area will find someone who can reach you far faster.

At your vehicle
Ford makes life easier than most.
Ford has used much the same remote across its range for two decades, even on recent Transit models, so parts are common and the work is familiar. One Transit quirk: the fob's battery is held by a slender soldered tab that breaks, killing the remote though it looks perfect, and that's a quick repair at the van. We also stock the discontinued blue-button Transit fob that's hard to find elsewhere, which makes Ford Transit key replacement quicker for older vans.

At your vehicle
Every Ford up to the 2023 models, cars and vans.
That includes the Fiesta, Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, C-Max, Ka and the Transit range. One fault worth knowing: a mid-2000s Focus or C-Max showing an engine fault can have water in the engine computer, which looks like a key problem but isn't. We'll ask about it before quoting, so you don't pay for a key that won't fix it. Fords stuck in alarm mode take longer too, which we'll flag on the phone.

What you'll pay hinges on the model, whether it's a key or an ignition, and whether you've a working key left.
A spare is the cheapest Ford job; a barrel or a no-keys job takes more. We quote a fixed figure from the reg before leaving, take no deposit, and agree any change first. Larger faults are diagnosed in person, and a call-out charge covers finding the root of it.

Your questions
Yes, and drilling is rarely needed. Fiesta barrels grip and grind the key until it won't turn, and they'll damage a new spare too. We take the barrel out, rebuild or swap it, and cut a key to the factory code, all at the car, often using parts we carry.
Yes, across Hampshire, East Dorset and South Wiltshire. We make Ford Transit keys at the van, including the discontinued blue-button fob we keep in stock, and repair the snapped battery tab on Transit remotes. Fleet and leased vans need a letter from the owner first.
Our area is Hampshire, East Dorset and South Wiltshire, because the job happens at your Ford. Elsewhere, a mobile locksmith near you will be quicker and can do Ford car key replacement the same way. If it's an ignition, ask whether they can remove the barrel without drilling.

What customers say
"I cannot recommend Alec enough. My transit custom lock was not turning. I did not know Alec at this point and called another locksmith. To cut a long story short the other locksmith attempted a repair and then gave up, leaving me with a van I could no longer use. I called Alec who came out next day; he repaired the damage done by the other locksmith and custom made a replacement ignition barrel so one key still does the doors and the new ignition. I couldn't be more pleased. Price was very fair too!"
"Did the work at a 3rd of the price of the dealership and I'm sure to a higher quality, the work was quick and professional. Could not recommend more!"
"Absolutely spot on! After ringing about 15 different companies who said they couldn't help and one company even saying the series of my car doesn't exist I found smarttech who I contacted who could finally help! The next day he came out and I now have access and a new key to my car! Fast and efficient polite service! Highly recommend!!"
